Born from the ashes of Rant Maggie Rant, Maggie's Wake is an exciting collaboration between RMR co-founder Lindsay Schindler (fiddle, vocals) and Tara Dunphy (tin whistle, flute, fiddle, vocals), lead singer and songwriter of acclaimed country outfit, The Rizdales. They are joined by a powerhouse band of Ontario's finest musicians, including Rob Larose on percussion, Andrew Kosty on bass and special guest Kyle Waymouth on guitar.

United in their passion for fiery tunes, soaring vocals with rich harmonies, meaningful stories and beautiful melodies, Lindsay and Tara are taking the foundation laid during the Rant Maggie Rant period and building an exciting, new sound. With influences ranging from classical to cajun, traditional celtic tunes and folk songs, latin rhythyms and jazz fusion, Maggie's Wake is all about adventure.

Cape Breton-based Americana band Pretty Archie to release their 6th studio album and celebrate their 10th anniversary in 2022!

Long time friends Brian Cathcart (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Matt McNeil (Mandolin, Guitar), Colin Gillis (Harmonica, Bass, Vocals), Redmond MacDougall (Banjo, Percussion, Vocals) and Scott MacLean (Guitar, Mandolin) starting performing together in 2012. The band’s name is a nod to a Cape Breton local who embodied the love of playing and performing music. No matter where they tour or travel, Pretty Archie will always be representing their hometown.

Pretty Archie, their sixth studio album, is one of which they are justifiably proud. It represents a quantum leap forward in the evolution of the group’s sound. ”I feel each of our other records was a step ahead of the previous one, but this one is six steps ahead,” declares Colin Gillis. “We are proud of everything we’ve put out, but this is at a different level.” 

Pinning down the ‘Pretty Archie sound’ hasn’t always been easy. Their style has incorporated elements of bluegrass, folk, country, and had that ‘East Coast vibe’. Describing the new album, Brian states “it is more focused, even though you still can’t quite put a finger on it. For us it definitely has way more of a country vibe. This is an alternative country or Americana-style…”

Helping the group realize the formidable creative achievement that is Pretty Archie was internationally-acclaimed record producer and engineer Mark Howard, whose star-studded resume includes work with the likes of Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, U2, Tom Waits, The Tragically Hip, Peter Gabriel, and more. Howard’s fortuitous recent relocation to Cape Breton afforded Pretty Archie the opportunity to take advantage of his skills, and the band couldn’t be happier with the results. 

“It was all basically recorded live off the floor, with minimal overdubs,” adds Colin. “That’s something we had always wanted, and Mark was able to do that. There’s a certain ambience and energy in recording that way.” 

With every record and tour Pretty Archie carries a little piece of home a bit farther afield. Since their 2013 debut album, Steel City, the band have built an ever- larger following on the east coast, across Canada and are now set to continue growing their International audience. 

Cathcart explains that “as a band, we wear our East Coast hearts on our sleeves. We are very proud of where we are from, but our focus now is exposing people internationally to our part of the world.” Gillis adds that “if you are genuine and true to yourselves, then people will attach themselves to that, no matter where you are from.” 

Pretty Archie have long been regional favourites, with a stack of Music Nova Scotia and East Coast Music Award nominations to their credit. They are now looking globally, and with Pretty Archie they have an album ready for international prime time play. 

The upbeat and joyous “Familiar Feeling” and catchy “Reasons'' showcase the band’s instrumental prowess, while Brian digs deep vocally on the haunting ballad “Feel It In My Bones.” At Howard’s suggestion, “Someone New'' became a duet, featuring Austin-based Maritime honky-tonker Whitney Rose, and the contrasting vocals add real resonance. Brian is especially proud of “Maritime,” a song written right in the studio that features these poignant lyrics - ”If your heart breaks down, we’ll use mine. It is weathered and weary, but it is Maritime.” 

Pretty Archie’s genuine, heartfelt writing connects listeners with a saltwater perspective on modern living. Their fun loving and at times heartbreaking music finds common ground in the blurred genres of Country, Folk, Bluegrass and Americana. Their unique sound and energetic shows leave listeners with a lasting memory.

Shane Cook & The Woodchippers and their new album, Be Here for a While are nominated for two 2022 Canadian Folk Music Awards: “Instrumental Group of the Year” and “Traditional Album of the year.

A Canadian and US National fiddle champion, Shane Cook leads a joyous and diverse musical journey through original fiddle tunes and songs on Be Here for a While, the debut album from Shane Cook & The Woodchippers. Shane Cook & The Woodchippers rely on their deep foundation in the traditional music, song and dance of Ontario for the core of their sound, yet also draw on styles as broad as folk, Celtic, roots, country and swing. The four-member group includes London’s Shane Cook on fiddle, London’s Joe Phillips on double bass; Dorchester’s Emily Flack on piano, vocals and dance; and Stratford’s Kyle Waymouth on guitar and dance.  

Juno Award nominated trumpeter Alexis Baro was born into a musical family in Havana, Cuba. Classically trained, he took up the trumpet at the age of age 8 and completed his musical education receiving a teaching certification at the prestigious Amadeo Roldán Music Conservatory in Havana.

While in school he became a member of the Buena Vista Social Club super star Omara Portuondo's band, and later at the age of 19 played lead trumpet for the National Radio and Television Orchestra. After moving to Toronto, Canada in 2001, he was discovered by iconic Canadian jazz drummer Archie Alleyne where he flourished as a writer and performer for eight years as a member of the Canadian award winning 'hard-bop" band Kollage. As a band member he was nominated for “Best Jazz Trumpeter” by the Canadian National Jazz Awards in the years 2006, 2007, and 2008. Baro has participated in more than 60 albums and can be heard as a feature solist on some of the most transcendent Latin albums made in Canada such as Hilario Duran’s Grammy Award nominated album “From The Heart”. He has performed with such artists as Nikky Yanofsky, David Foster, Michael Bubble, Paul Anca, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Brian Blade, Paquito d' Rivera, Jimmy Bosch, Miguel Zenon, Hilario Duran, Robi Botos, Jesus Alemaney & Cubanismo, David Virelles, Andrea Boccelli, Gino Vanelli, Esthero, David Rudder, Juan de Marco & The Afro-Cuban All Stars, and Horacio "el negro" Hernandez. Highlights in his solo career include opening for Herbie Hancock, and tours of South America and the West Indies. He’s released six albums as a solo artist “Havana Banana”, “From the Other Side”, “Blue Skin”, “Guilty Pleasure” which won a Gold Medal “Global Music Award” in the jazz category in 2015, "Sugar Rush" his 2016 release featuring a collection of new original Afro Cuban jazz compositions. His latest recording "Sandstorm" has received critical acclaim receiving a 2019 Juno Award nomination (the Canadian equal of a Grammy Award) for "Best Jazz Album: Solo Artist" category.

In its 49th season, the game-changing Canadian Brass has performed in virtually every major concert hall in the world, been seen by hundreds of millions of people on television, sold 2 million of its approximately 100 albums worldwide, and contributed nearly 600 new works and arrangements to the brass quintet repertoire. Renowned for genre-bending versatility and joyous performances, the award-winning Brass is almost single-handedly responsible for elevating the art of the brass quintet to what it is today. Canadian Brass is made up of five extraordinary talents: visionary founder, tuba legend and business specialist Chuck Daellenbach plus four top brass stars—Caleb Hudson and Brandon Ridenour (trumpets), Achilles Liarmakopoulos (trombone) and Jeff Nelsen (horn). Ty Herndon is a master of the ties that bind. The Grammy-nominated and Dove award-winning recording artist has the ability to connect with an audience far beyond his onstage performance. More than 20 years into his career, Herndon shows no signs of slowing down.

Herndon made his chart debut in 1995 with “What Mattered Most,” which became his first No. 1 song and garnered a Song of the Year award (Music Row Magazine).  It was also the title track to his debut album, which debuted on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and had the biggest first-week shipment in the history of Epic Records’ Nashville.

Between 1995 and 2002, Herndon charted 17 singles, including his three No.1s and numerous top 10 hits, such as “I Want My Goodbye Back,” “Loved Too Much,” “A Man Holding On,” and “Hands of a Working Man.” He topped the charts in 1996 with the single “Living in a Moment” and again in 1998 with “It Must Be Love.”

In 2014, Ty was the first major male country artist to publicly come out as gay in an exclusive with People magazine. He received an outpouring of support that only strengthened his relationship with fans and the country music community, all while expanding his reach to new and diverse audiences.  Shortly after, he made history when he hosted a first-of- its-kind country music event, The Concert for Love and Acceptance. The event, designed to raise awareness and support for LGBTQ youth and families, received national attention from Boston Globe, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Tonight, and many more. Since the launch of the event, Herndon has partnered with GLAAD to produce the event each year and created the Foundation For Love & Acceptance in 2020 to further his work on behalf of LGBTQ acceptance.

Ty found himself back at No. 1 in 2020 — this time on iTunes with his remake of “Orphans of God,” a collaboration with Kristin Chenoweth and Paul Cardall featured on his holiday release, Regifted. He is currently in the studio writing and recording a new album — his first of all new music since 2016’s House On Fire.

The King’s Singers have represented the gold standard in cappella singing on the world’s greatest stages for over fifty years. They are renowned for their unrivalled technique, versatility and skill in performance, and for their consummate musicianship, drawing both on the group’s rich heritage and its pioneering spirit to create an extraordinary wealth of original works and unique collaborations. What has always distinguished the group is their comfort in an unprecedented range of styles and genres, pushing the boundaries of their repertoire, while at the same time honouring their origins in the British choral tradition. They are known and loved around the world, and appear regularly in major cities, festivals and venues across Europe, North America, Asia and Australasia, including Carnegie Hall, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Mozarteum Salzburg, Tonhalle Zurich, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Edinburgh International Festival, Helsinki Music Centre, Sydney Opera House, Tokyo Opera City and the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing. In 2018 they founded The King’s Singers Global Foundation to provide a platform for the creation of new music across multiple disciplines, coach a new generation of performers and provide musical opportunities to people of all backgrounds. The King’s Singers were formed in 1968, when six recent choral scholars from King’s College, Cambridge gave a concert at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. By chance, the group was made up of two counter-tenors, a tenor, two baritones and a bass, and the group has maintained this formation ever since that debut.

Touring globally, the group performs an extensive repertory both in its a cappella concerts and in collaborations with leading orchestras, conductors and soloists. Versatility and a celebration of diverse musical expression are central to the ensemble’s performance and education ethos. Spring and Summer festivals continue the success of ‘LIVE From London’. This season also sees the launch of the VOCES8 Digital Academy, an online choral program for high schools and colleges featuring live interaction with members of the ensemble, live and recorded lectures, and video resources to learn and perform music from the renaissance to today. With an on-going program of recordings, videos and live broadcasts, VOCES8 is heard regularly on albums, international television and radio, as well as maintaining a vibrant web performance presence. The ensemble is a Decca Classics artist and alongside releases on its own label, VOCES8 Records, has released acclaimed recordings that have all reached the top of the classical charts; a major new album with Decca Classics, “Infinity”, is planned for release in August 2021. VOCES8 is passionate about music education and is the flagship ensemble of the music charity the VOCES8 Foundation. Engaging in a broad range of outreach work that reaches up to 40,000 people a year, the group runs an annual program of workshops and masterclasses at the Foundation’s home in London, the VOCES8 Centre at St Anne & St Agnes Church. Dedicated to supporting promising young singers, the group awards eight annual choral scholarships through the VOCES8 Scholars initiative. These scholarships are linked to the annual Milton Abbey Summer School at which amateur singers of all ages are invited to work and perform with VOCES8. Through the separate VOCES8 USA Foundation there is another set of talented Scholars. VOCES8 is proud to be working with Roxanna Panufnik as the group’s Composer-in-Residence, and Jim Clements as Arranger-in-Residence. The ensemble has premiered commissions from Jonathan Dove, Roxanna Panufnik, Roderick Williams, Paul Smith, Jocelyn Hagen, Melissa Dunphy, Ken Williams, Taylor Scott Davis, Alexander Levine, Alexia Sloane, Alec Roth, Ben Parry, Ola Gjeilo, Mårten Jansson, Philip Stopford, Graham Lack, Thomas Hewitt Jones and Owain Park. As ambassadors for Edition Peters the ensemble publishes educational material including the ‘VOCES8 Method’. Developed by Paul Smith, co-founder of VOCES8, this renowned and unique teaching tool is available in four languages and adopts music to enhance development in numeracy, literacy and linguistics. Also available are two anthologies of its arrangements, and an ever-expanding ‘VOCES8 Singles’ range.

Molly Johnson's voice evokes the aura of dark smoky nightclubs of a bygone era. It speaks to an emotional depth that few vocalists in any genre ever reach. Like the woman behind it, it is a voice filled with humor, joy, surprise, sassiness, and of course, love.

Molly's highly anticipated new album "Meaning To TellYa" was released in Spring . 2018. Produced by multiple GRAMMY Award-winning producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Madeleine Peyroux, Meldoy Gardot, Norah Jones); it is more than ajazz record. It's funk, it's soul, it's groove, played by some of Canada's best musicians. Says Moll y: "Working with Larry was magic. When it was finally my turn, I jumped at the opportunity. This is a record I have been wanting to make for years. I can't wait to share it with everyone!" Says Larry: "Molly has a voice that is who she is as a person. Molly's voice has the kind of character that when you hear it, you hear who she is and you hear her history. You hear what she's done and where she has been and it's what I'm drawn to in a voice.”

A highly respected philanthropist and Officer to the Order of Canada, she has raised millions of dollars for people living with HIV/AIDS with her own Kumbaya Foundation and many other charitable organizations that she supports. Molly also hosted a weekend morning program on CBC Radio 2 for five years. In 2016, Molly launched the Kensington Market Jazz Festival, which fills the colorful and vibrant area performing 150+ shows over one weekend in September to over 5000 enthusiastic music fans.

Twelve years have passed since Béatrice Martin appeared in our lives as Cœur de pirate. Over this period of time, the singer-songwriter and pianist has sold over a million albums and earned several million fans who listen to her songs on repeat via streaming platforms. The mark she has made in the French-speaking pop world is indelible and undeniable. Looking back to her beginnings, it’s safe to say that when Béatrice Martin began performing alone at the piano, she rose like a tidal wave that swept over Montreal’s stagnating indie-rock scene. Bolstered by the success of her early concerts, she released a self-titled debut in September 2008, which went platinum in Canada and diamond in France. Bypassing the usual channels, she almost immediately made a name for herself on the other side of the Atlantic, a feat many famed Quebec artists took years to achieve. Parting with the piano in favour of a more playful pop sound, she followed up with Blonde (2011), a sophomore release that was also certified platinum in Canada and in France. In 2012, the album earned Béatrice the Félix awards for Pop Album of the Year and Female Performer of the Year. Her third album, a bilingual effort titled Roses (2015), reached gold status in Canada and in France, with over 200 000 copies sold worldwide. In 2016, Cœur de pirate earned the Félix award for English-Language Album of the Year, while also making her mark in English-speaking Canada with a JUNO nomination for the Fan Choice award. With a trail of sold-out shows to her credit in Canada, France, the United States, Mexico, England, Spain, Italy, and Germany, Cœur de pirate has established herself as a unifying voice and a safe bet on stages. Thus, she has been welcomed by the greatest Canadian and European festivals over the past decade, including Les Francofolies de la Rochelle, the Festival d’été de Québec, and Osheaga, to name only a few. After several years spent touring the world, a sense of creative urgency set in. As a result, En cas de tempête, ce jardin sera fermé was released in 2018, just in time to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Cœur de pirate’s career. In addition to touring internationally in support of the record, Cœur de pirate kicked off the 2019 edition of Les Francos de Montréal before hundreds of fans at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, giving a standout show that marked the realization of a dream. As she continued to honour her busy touring schedule, she earned many stellar accolades along the way, including the Singer-Songwriter of the Year and Female Performer of the Year awards at the SOCAN and ADISQ ceremonies, respectively. In the public eye every week as a coach on Quebec’s reality talent show La Voix and a judge on France’s singing competition Nouvelle Star, Cœur de pirate increasingly aspires to use her platform to take stands on political and social issues. Her feminist stance is unequivocal in the song “T’es belle,” and the music video for the song—Béatrice’s debut as a director—delivers a frank blow to everyday sexism, clearly embracing the paradigm shift of our times. In the midst of what was already an eventful year, Cœur de pirate shook things up even more in 2020 when she took the reins of the record label that saw her rise to fame, renaming the company Bravo musique. In this brand-new role, Béatrice takes pride in spotlighting the talent that surrounds her, in all its wonderful complexity. She is also invested in mentoring young and emerging artists. In the spring of 2021, Cœur de pirate returned to her first love with Perséides, an album of new instrumental pieces where the piano reigns supreme. She is currently working on another full-length album, which is set to be released before the end of 2021.
